LG Enlighten Full Specification (Verizon Wireless)

LG Enlighten Prices Verizon Wireless

The LG Enlighten (free with two-year contract) is a solid budget Android smartphone for Verizon Wireless customers that like to text and email. Some of the design decisions are questionable, and strangely, it drops down in screen resolution compared to its predecessor, the LG Ally (3.5 stars).

But for the most part, the Enlighten handset will serve you well if you're looking for a basic smartphone with a hardware QWERTY keyboard.
Apps and OS:
===========
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is on board. LG also bumped the processor up from 600MHz to 800MHz; between that and Gingerbread, the Enlighten feels quite responsive.

The Enlighten should work with most of the 250,000+ third-party apps available in the Android Market, thanks to the stock screen resolution and relatively untouched Gingerbread OS. That includes Facebook and Twitter; given the hardware keyboard and speedy interface, this is a fine machine for social networking mavens.

There are seven customizable home screens you can swipe between. LG has altered Android's standard app drawer layout to force mandatory folders on you; if you're OCD about icons, this is not your phone. There's also some non-removable bloatware. Verizon includes a Data Usage app that tracks your monthly allotment in real time, which is helpful. The Enlighten also offers all of Android's usual benefits, including free, voice-enabled, turn-by-turn GPS navigation, robust email handling, and a powerful WebKit browser.

Specifications:
=============
  • Service Provider:- Sprint
  • Operating System:- Android OS
  • Screen Size :- 3.2 inches
  • Screen Details :- 320-by-480-pixel, 16.7M color, TFT capacitive touch screen
  • Camera:- Yes
  • Network :- CDMA
  • Bands:- 850, 1900
  • High-Speed Data :- EVDO Rev A
  • Processor Speed:- 800 MHz

  • Megapixels :- 3.2 MP
  • Camera Flash :- No
  • 802.11x :- Yes
  • Bluetooth :- Yes
  • Web Browser :- Yes
  • Form Factor :- Slider
  • Network :- CDMA
  • Bands :- 850, 1900
  • High-Speed Data :- EVDO Rev A
  • Storage Capacity (as Tested) :- 160.77 MB
  • Processor Speed:- 800 MHz
  • Keyboard:- Yes
Design, Keyboard, and Call Quality:
=========================
The Enlighten measures 4.5 by 2.3 by 0.58 inches (HWD) and weighs 5.5 ounces; that's a little heavy, but not terrible given the large keyboard. It's made of dark grey plastic, with a soft touch back cover.

The 3.2-inch, 320-by-480 pixel capacitive touch screen is bright and colorful, and typical for a budget Android phone, although it's considerably worse than the LG Ally's 480-by-800 pixel panel was. It's still fine for basic tasks, and the small size is OK, since you won't be typing on the screen much.

The slide-out, four-row QWERTY keyboard is quite roomy; it features oversized, well-separated plastic keys that depress with a subtle click. LG dedicated the top row to number keys, so I had to dance around the space bar in the bottom row with my thumbs to hit certain letters. Whether that bothers you or not is a matter of personal preference, though, as it's nice to have dedicated number keys.

The Enlighten is a dual-band EV-DO Rev. A (850/1900 MHz) device with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support. It also works as a 3G mobile hotspot with the appropriate data plan. Like many Verizon phones, the Enlighten sounded excellent on voice calls; crisp, clear, and bright, with a ton of available gain for use in noisy environments outdoors. Callers said I sounded very clear as well. Reception was average.

Calls also sounded clear through a Jawbone Era Bluetooth headset ($129, 4 stars), and voice dialing worked fine over Bluetooth without training. The speakerphone sounded somewhat distorted but went plenty loud for outdoor use. Battery life was excellent at 8 hours and 22 minutes of talk time.

Multimedia, Camera, and Conclusions:
=============================
A standard-sized 3.5mm headphone jack sits on top of the phone, and there's a MicroSD memory card slot beneath the back cover. My 32GB SanDisk card worked fine, and Verizon tosses in a 2GB card to get you started. There's also 161MB of free internal storage.

Music tracks sounded fine through Samsung Modus HM6450 Bluetooth headphones ($99, 4 stars), and the music player app was responsive and displayed large album art thumbnails. Standalone videos played well in full screen mode, but anything 720p or higher was out; the Enlighten didn't transcode them on the fly for the lower-res screen.

The 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera has no flash. Test photos were disappointing. Outdoor shots in sunlight were OK, aside from some smudged details around tree leaves. But indoor shots were a disaster: way too dark, with blown out highlights around windows and an overall soft focus.

The slow auto-focus adds roughly two seconds to each shot, and requires that you hold down the button the entire time to actually take each photo. The camcorder recorded usable 640-by-480 pixel (standard VGA) videos that averaged 14 frames per second, although actual frame rates were all over the map depending on how much light was available. Again, indoor areas were a murky mess, even with the room lighting cranked.

As long as you're not too demanding and have a separate camera, The LG Enlighten is a fine choice for a lower-priced phone. If you're shopping for an Android phone with a QWERTY keyboard on Verizon, though, take a look at the Samsung Stratosphere ($149.99, 3.5 stars). The Stratosphere gives you a faster processor, better camera, nicer screen, and super-fast 4G LTE. Yes, it costs $150 more, but think of that as only $6.25/month on your two-year contract.

LG Marquee Full Specification (Sprint)

LG Marquee Features(Sprint)

Upon first glance, the LG Marquee ($99.99, direct) looks like any number of other Android cell phones. But a closer look reveals something special: an exceptionally bright, crisp screen. Aside from a major video playback bug, this is a solid phone if you're looking for the best screen and physical design for the least amount of cash.

Apps, Multimedia, and Conclusions:
 ===========================
The 1GHz single-core TI OMAP 3630 Cortex A8 processor and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS keep things moving along at a decent clip. LG left the OS relatively unscathed, so it's mercifully simple to navigate. Sprint ID is also on board; it lets you customize any of the five home screen panels with various downloadable theme packs from Sprint, such as MTV Music, Fashion and Beauty, Green, and NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Otherwise, the Marquee is a fairly standard Android device with all the usual features, including an excellent WebKit browser with Flash support, GPS with free Google Maps Navigation for voice-enabled, turn by turn directions, and access to the Android Market, which now features over 250,000 third-party apps.

There's a memory card slot underneath the battery cover; my 32GB SanDisk card worked fine, and LG includes a 2GB card in the box. There's also a generous 2.79GB of free internal storage space. The standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack is welcome. Music tracks sounded clear, if thin, through Samsung Modus HM6450 Bluetooth headphones ($99, 4 stars). Standalone videos played smoothly in full screen mode and looked especially vibrant, even transcoded 720p files. However, a huge bug marred all video playback: Audio was out of sync by a full second on all files I tried.

The 5-megapixel auto-focus camera includes an LED flash. Test photos looked good overall, with reasonable sharpness, detail, and light balance, both indoors and out. Indoor shots on a cloudy day still looked fine, with some shadowy areas but surprisingly little grain. Recorded 720p (1280-by-720-pixel) videos played smoothly at 24 frames per second; they looked okay, but could have been sharper and brighter. A 2-megapixel, front-facing camera handles video chats.

Overall, the Marquee is a solid effort. It's a shame about the bugs, because it could have been a shoo-in for a budget Android phone recommendation. The Samsung Conquer 4G ($99, 4 stars) is a good comparison point; for the same price, you get 4G data speeds and a faster 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, but step down to a dimmer, lower-resolution screen and a more pedestrian overall design.

If you can bump up your budget by $50, the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch ($149.99, 4 stars) adds a beautifully vibrant, 4.5-inch LCD screen and a top-end 1.2GHz Exynos processor in addition to 4G data speeds. The Motorola Photon 4G ($199, 4.5 stars), has an even higher resolution display, better voice quality, and works with an optional desktop dock. Finally, if you're not beholden to Android, the Apple iPhone 4S ($199, 4.5 stars) is the best cameraphone and portable game console on the market, and its app catalog is second to none.

Design, Screen, and Call Quality:
=========================
This is a sleek phone. The Marquee measures 4.8 by 2.5 by 0.36 inches (HWD) and weighs just under four ounces. It's made entirely of glossy plastic, with the exception of the glass screen. The tapered back panel features a thin, vertical line pattern.

The 4-inch, 480-by-800-pixel NOVA capacitive touch screen is a sight to behold. It uses IPS LCD technology, just like the iPhone 4's Retina display. But it's even brighter, impossible as that may seem. LG quotes it at 700 nits of brightness; Apple says the iPhone clocks in at 500 nits. Next to a Verizon iPhone 4's Retina display, the Marquee looks about as bright, and had slightly more vivid color.

Yellows and whites are more pronounced on the Marquee, even in direct sunlight, although both displays are equally readable otherwise. Both phones shame the Super AMOLED-based Samsung Infuse 4G on AT&T ($99, 3.5 stars), especially in direct sun. Viewing angles on the Marquee are solid, but again, roughly equivalent to the iPhone 4.

The Marquee is a dual-band EV-DO Rev. A (850/1900 MHz) device with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. There's no 4G WiMAX support. The Marquee also works as a mobile hotspot for up to five devices with the appropriate plan. Call quality was good, if not spectacular; callers sounded warm and full in the earpiece, with little static. There wasn't enough volume, though; this isn't the phone to get if you spend a lot of time outdoors in noisy environments. Transmissions through the mic were a little thin, but clear, and reception was above average.

Relate Post link:

Calls sounded good through a Jawbone Era Bluetooth headset ($129, 4 stars). Voice dialing was a failure; it took about 10 seconds to start up each time, and never registered any commands once the display changed to "Listening…" The speakerphone went surprisingly loud, although it had a harsh, grainy tone at the maximum setting. Battery life was average at 5 hours and 48 minutes of talk time.

Long Lasting Phones With the Best Battery Life

Long Lasting Phones Best Battery

Editors' Note: some of the T-Mobile phones we've reviewed were tested in EDGE mode, so even though they had fantastic battery life results, we excluded them from this list. All the results you see here are on 3G networks.

Have you ever felt your cell phone vibrate and pulled it out of your pocket, expecting to to see a text or e-mail message, only to see a low-battery warning instead? Surely, you've uttered the dreaded words, “My phone is dying, so I have to say this fast!"

It may be time to consider investing in a phone with better battery life.

I don’t know about you, but the idea of carrying an extra battery or charger around, or even strapping a battery case to my phone is not all that appealing. But I’m realistic.

Smartphones, with their big touch screens and fast processors, suck up a lot of power, so I’m not expecting to make it through the week on a single charge. Still, there’s no excuse for not being able to make it through the day.

For every phone we review here at flashmobilleinfo we test continuous talk time, to measure just how much chatting you can do between charges.

Although talk time doesn’t account for all the other ways we use our phones throughout the day, it’s still a useful indication of how long you can expect your battery to last. For most smartphones running on a 3G network, the average talk time is a little over five hours, which isn't bad. There are also a good number of phones that fall in the six-hour range, which is even better.

For this list, we’re rounding up phones that delivered at least six hours—some go well beyond that—which should be more than enough juice to get you from morning to evening without a charge.

Top Best Android Phones Specs

Best Android Phones Features

It's hard to believe that it's been just three years since Google's open-source Android mobile operating system hit the scene. When the first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, was released, the mobile landscape looked very different. Most people carried simple handsets that focused on making calls.

If you were lucky, you could listen to music or play games on your mobile phone. Back then, you didn't have to have a smartphone that ran thousands of apps to let you, in the palm of your hand, do many of the things your computer could do. Apps weren't even a thing yet. Apple had only released the iPhone 3G and launched its groundbreaking App Store a couple of months earlier.

It was the introduction of Android that helped propel the app-based smartphone to what it is today. The thing Android offered, which Apple's iPhone couldn't, was choice. Since it was an open-source platform, several hardware manufacturers could use the OS on their handsets, and a variety of wireless carriers could offer those phones—and they did.

A year after Android was released, in the U.S. there was a single Apple iPhone on a single carrier, but there were eight different Android handsets with varying form factors available on three of the four major carriers.

Today, you can find a variety of Android phones on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. Even the little guys like Cricket and Virgin Mobile offer Android options. According to Comscore, Android enjoys 33 percent of the U.S. smartphone market today.

That's a lot of phones to choose from. To come up with our list, we've chosen two winners for each of the four major carriers, one for each of four smaller carriers, and, if you're contract-phobic, the best unlocked handset.

Top Fastest Mobile Networks 2011

Fastest Networks Mobile 2011

With smartphone innovation moving at a breakneck pace, new tablets hitting the market all the time, and an increasing number of people using cellular modems and mobile hotspots to get online on the go, access to speedy data coverage is becoming more essential every day.

But you shouldn't believe the hype: All "4G" is not the same. In a 21-city test across the United States, we found that Verizon's new 4G LTE network is much faster than other mobile Web options, with speeds that often exceed home Internet connections.

There's no question that 4G is spreading across the nation, but there's a lot of confusion over what 4G exactly is. AT&T, MetroPCS, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless aren't just using varied technologies; sometimes they're implementing the same technology very differently.

So we sent six drivers on a cross-country road trip in Ford cars with lots of mobile phones and custom software designed by network testing firm Sensorly to see just how fast these 4G Internet connections really are. (See How We Tested for more details.)

Top Fastest Mobile Networks 2011

Last year we tested with laptops. For our second annual test, we switched to phones, to more accurately reflect how Americans are using the mobile Internet. According to research firm NPD, as of the first quarter of 2011, more than half of all new mobile phones purchased in the U.S. were smartphones, and analysts have projected that will grow.

We didn't test voice quality or dropped calls, which we've already surveyed, as part of our annual Readers' Choice Awards. The tests for this story were all about mobile Internet.

We ran more than 140,000 tests in 21 cities. Not all the networks were available in all the cities, as you'll see on the individual city pages. Most notably, cities generally have either Cricket or MetroPCS as a local option.

We didn't test coverage either, but our technology partner Sensorly does. Head over to the company's website, or download the Sensorly app from the Android Market to see crowdsourced coverage maps for all the major U.S. mobile carriers, enhanced with the data from our test drives.

Bear in mind, mobile networks are constantly changing, and almost always for the better. And because speeds vary based on tower location, network load, device used, and even the weather, we can't predict performance in a specific location; rather, we're giving a snapshot of a few days' worth of usage in several locations across a metro area.

Price & Availability

The Nokia Lumia 710 handset comes with an affordable price tag of $375 (270 euro). It will hit Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan first by the end of this year, but it will also land on different market in early 2012. No word on U.S. availability yet.

Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone Full Specification

Nokia Lumia 800 Feature and Price

The Nokia Lumia 800 is the company's first Windows Phone 7.5 handset and represents Nokia's transition to Microsoft's operating system for its smartphone devices. We got some hands-on time with the Lumia 800 shortly after it was announced at Nokia World, and came away fairly impressed.

The design of the Lumia 800 is nearly identical to that of Nokia's N9 MeeGo smartphone, and that is no bad thing. It features the same single piece polyurethane body with curved ClearBlack AMOLED display that just feels great in your hands. Nokia's attention to detail and manufacturing prowess has never been better demonstrated than in the N9 and the Lumia 800.

Though the phone is a relatively thick 12.1mm, the curves of the display and body make it feel thinner in your hand than it actually is. The ClearBlack display looks as good as ever, and really lets the Windows Phone 7.5 interface shine.

Though Windows Phone smartphones rarely have poor performance, the 1.4GHz processor in the Lumia 800 allows it to operate with a lot of speed and fluidity. Menus scrolled effortlessly and apps opened with minimal lag. Many criticize Microsoft for not supporting dual-core processors in Windows Phone yet, but it does not seem to be limiting the 800's performance.
Unfortunately, Nokia has not announced plans to bring the Lumia 800 to the U.S., and its current tri-band 3G support would make it a poor candidate to import. Those in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands will see it on shelves next month, with an expected 420 EUR (US$585) price tag.

GSMA's 17th Global Mobile Awards 2012

The GSMA's 17th Global Mobile Awards

Honouring excellence and innovation in mobile communications, the GSMA is delighted to announce the call for entries to the 17th Annual Global Mobile Awards.

The path to winning the communication industry’s most coveted prizes begins here, and culminates at the Mobile World Congress on Tuesday 28th February 2012, in Barcelona, Spain.

The GSMA is introducing some key new enhancements for the 2012 awards. Reflecting the explosion in demand for a world of mobile applications, this begins with new categories for “Apps of the Year” that will be determined by user choice and judged on statistical evidence of global downloads & usage, as well as ‘Best App’, determined by our independent judging panel of experts. A fourth, ‘Most Innovative App category’ that is open for entries/submissions.

We are also introducing specific categories for “Best Smartphone”, “Best Feature phone” and a brand new “Best Tablet” category as part of the Best Mobile Handset & Devices Awards. In addition to recognition of the Best Handsets and Devices of 2011, our panel of Judges will also search for, and select the very best and most promising Handsets and Devices on show at the Mobile World Congress in 2012.

The 2012 Awards also feature updates and new categories to reflect the broad and constantly evolving mobile eco-system; such as new awards within Mobile Advertising and Marketing alongside the Mobile Innovation Awards focused on the convergence of mobile with the vertical sectors of health, transport/ automotive & utilities, education, publishing and mobile money sectors, plus a special category for embedded consumer devices.
There are also expanded Technology and Social & Economic categories, the latter including new awards for “Best Use of Mobile in Emergency Situations” and for “Best Products and Services for Women in Emerging Markets”.
Scam Warning
Important Information

There are many people and groups that attempt to obtain your money or personal information inappropriately through fraudulent means. Often, these people and groups misrepresent who they are in an effort to deceive you about the legitimacy of what they are claiming.

Sometimes, although not always, they will claim that you have won a lottery or sweepstakes and ask that you send them money so that they can release your supposed winnings to you. In such a situation, you should be very careful and fully investigate any and all claims before you send any money.

Please be aware that there are many scams that use SMS / e-mail in an attempt to defraud people using methods similar to these, and we warn strongly against your responding to this type of SMS / e-mail without rigorous investigation to establish whether it is of a genuine nature.

Generally, you should treat unsolicited communication (e-mail, phone & letters) that offer financial gain with extreme suspicion; be aware that legitimate lotteries rarely, if ever, ask for a fee to release your winnings; you should not pay any requested fee in advance without fully investigating the matter; and you should not provide banking details or other sensitive financial information in response to emails, phone inquiries and letters without a thorough investigation.

At the moment someone is sending notices to people, falsely claiming that the recipients have won a lottery. These notices falsely claim to be from the GSMA and even have the name and contact information of GSMA employees.

These notices are completely fraudulent, cleverly designed to trick people into sending money for prizes they will never receive. GSMA is NOT RUNNING a sweepstakes and has never asked anyone to wire money to redeem a prize.

================================
"Tonight, America lost a genius who will be remembered with Edison and Einstein, and whose ideas will shape the world for generations to come. Again and again over the last four decades, Steve Jobs saw the future and brought it to life long before most people could even see the horizon. And Steve's passionate belief in the power of technology to transform the way we live brought us more than smart phones and iPads: it brought knowledge and power that is reshaping the face of civilization.
